IN APRIL this year a delegation from the University of Split, Croatia, visited Macquarie University and the Croatian Studies Centre. The delegation consisted of Professor Ivan Pavic, Rector, Professor Zeljko Domazet, Vice-Rector, Professor Josip Milat, Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Professor Josko Bozanic, Head of Croatian Program at the University of Split .

On the initiative of Mr Luka Budak and Dr Boris Skvorc from the Croatian Studies Centre, the delegation signed the Agreement of cooperation between Macquarie University and the University of Split . The Agreement was signed in the Vice-Chancellor's Office by Professor Ivan Pavic and Professor Tony Adams, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs at Macquarie University .

This Agreement will stipulate the exchange of students and academics as well as international research projects, including the one in transnational migration and second and third generation Australian Croatians which has already been initiated by the Croatian Studies Centre and Faculty of Humanities at the University of Split .

The first group of students will attend a one month intensive language course at the University of Split in July 2007. The most important long term task in the area of student exchange is the exchange of postgraduate students and resources, and especially awarding of joint doctoral degrees (PhDs) with joint scholarships for the best candidates.

The Agreement also includes the coordination of learning and teaching resources and activities with other Croatian Studies Centres worldwide.
